My name is Matthew, and I am currently studying BSc Management at the London School of Economics. At the end of 2016, I started to apply to internships at a variety of companies around London. After applying to a programme at J.P. Morgan, EmployAbility immediately contacted me to offer their support.
The following day, I had a phone call with a representative from EmployAbility. She was very patient and supportive, especially given that I had only been recently diagnosed with my disabilities, and guided me through the services that they could offer. This ranged from providing information about the application process, to helping me request adjustments for assessment centres. Even from this early stage, it was clear that the staff at EmployAbility are passionate about ensuring that everyone receives an equal opportunity to perform at their best.
Having received the necessary adjustments and passed the assessment centre and interviews, EmployAbility stepped in once again to provide support as I approached the start of my summer placement. I attended their seminar entitled “How to Make the Most of your Internship”, which provided me with the tools and insights I needed to enter into (what was for me) an unfamiliar corporate environment.
Upon beginning my internship, my assistive technology was ready for me on the first day, and I immediately felt confident that I had the necessary tools in place to succeed in my role. EmployAbility kept in touch throughout my time at J.P. Morgan, including sending a representative to meet with me in person and discuss any issues I may have been experiencing. The level of support and guidance I experienced whilst under their care is unparalleled to anything I have received before.
I highly recommend any young individual who is gifted with the uniqueness of a disability to contact EmployAbility. Whether you are looking to apply to workplace programmes or engage with a like-minded community, the services they offer are second to none. I believe that all young people should be given a fair chance to demonstrate their full potential, and I am ever thankful to EmployAbility for giving me that chance.
At EmployAbility we work with disabled university students and graduates to ease the transition from education into employment. To take advantage of these opportunities, the first step is to register with us. You can also contact us with any specific queries.
